Overview of Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degrees

Bachelor of Arts Degree – Requirements

  1. General
    1. 126 semester credits
    2. Cumulative GPA of 2.0 in Concordia courses
    3. Residence requirements met (see Residence Requirement)
    4. 40 semester credits with senior college credit (courses numbered 300 and above)
  2. Major
    1. Completion of all requirements for at least one major, as outlined in each major offered
    2. A minimum of 50 percent of the major requirements must be Concordia coursework
    3. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in Concordia courses and all courses in the major presented for graduation. Individual department or programs may have more restrictive policies. Please consult the individual department or program page for details.
  3. Liberal Arts Core Curriculum requirements
    The requirements for the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum described in the Core Curriculum.
  4. PEAK – Pivotal Experience in Applied Knowledge
    The requirements for PEAK as described in the Integrative Learning and PEAK in the Concordia Experience section of the catalog.

Bachelor of Music Degree – Requirements

  1. General
    1. Minimum 126 semester credits (excluding music ensembles)
    2. Cumulative GPA of 2.0 in Concordia courses
    3. Residence requirements met (see Residence Requirement)
    4. 40 semester credits with senior college credit (courses numbered 300 and above)
  2. Major
    1. The Bachelor of Music degree is available in five different areas: instrumental music, piano, voice, composition, and music teaching. Each program has its own requirements, which are listed in the music department pages.
    2. A minimum of 50 percent of the major requirements must be Concordia coursework
    3. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in Concordia courses and all courses in the major presented for graduation
  3. Liberal Arts Core Curriculum requirements
    First-Year Experience courses, completion of required non-music electives and both religion courses (as listed in the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum)
  4. PEAK – Pivotal Experience in Applied Knowledge
    The requirements for PEAK as described in the Integrative Learning and PEAK in the Concordia Experience section of the catalog.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Requirements

  1. General
    1. Minimum 126 semester credits (excluding music ensembles)
    2. Cumulative GPA of 2.0 in Concordia courses
    3. Residence requirements met (see Residence Requirement)
    4. 40 semester credits with senior college credit (courses numbered 300 and above)
  2. Major
    1. Completion of all requirements for a nursing major, as outlined in the nursing department pages of the catalog.
    2. A minimum of 50 percent of the major requirements must be Concordia coursework.
    3. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in Concordia courses. The nursing department may have additional policies. 
  3. Liberal Arts Core Curriculum requirements

  4. PEAK – Pivotal Experience in Applied Knowledge

Previous AA or Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) Completion*

Students that have previously completed an AA from a regionally accredited institution or who have completed the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) prior to enrolling at Concordia must complete the following Core Curriculum requirements at Concordia (or have them fulfilled with an equivalent transfer course):

  • World Language - One course at the second semester level or higher
  • Religion 200 Christianity and Religious Diversity

*Students that complete the MnTC through post-secondary enrollment or dual credit options will be required to take FYS 110, WELL 110 and WELL 111 during their first year at Concordia College.

Second Bachelor's Degrees

Students that have earned a previous bachelor’s degree from Concordia College or from a regionally accredited institution and are seeking a second bachelor’s degree from Concordia College are required to complete a minimum of 32 credits of Concordia coursework that are unique to the Concordia degree. The second degree must be of a type that differs from the initial degree (e.g., a BA if a BM or BSN was previously earned) and in a major not previously awarded. Students must meet degree and program of study requirements listed in the catalog. Core Curriculum requirements required for each degree type are as follows:

  • Students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Concordia College as a second degree are not required to complete Concordia’s Core Curriculum.
  • Students seeking a Bachelor of Music degree from Concordia College as a second degree are not required to complete Concordia’s Core Curriculum.
  • Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia College as a second degree must complete the following Core Curriculum requirements at Concordia (or have them fulfilled with an equivalent transfer course):
    • World Language - One course at the second semester level or higher
    • Religion 200 Christianity and Religious Diversity

Dual Degree (three-plus) Programs

Modified Curriculum

PEAK/Integrative Learning

Students completing the "three plus"/dual degree program would complete one PEAK at Concordia during their first three years.  They would be exempt from the second PEAK.  

Core

Students would complete the following Concordia Core requirements:

  • First-Year Experience courses focused on the foundations of engaged citizenship (FYS 110, ENG 110, COM 110, WELL 110 and WELL 111).
  • One course in each exploration area: Mathematics, Sciences, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and
  • One Religion course (REL 200)
  • World Language to second semester proficiency
  • One Critical Issues course

Students who transfer to partner institutions would not be required to complete the following at Concordia: the 300-level Religion course and a second Social Science exploration course.

Senior Credits

Students will complete the required 40 senior level credits (courses numbered at 300- and 400-level) through a combination of Concordia coursework as well as coursework completed at the partner institution.  All students transferring to a professional program will complete upper division courses at their new institution and transfer these credits back to Concordia to fulfill outstanding senior-level credits.

Major

Students will be expected to complete a Concordia major.  Each individual program partnership will be reviewed and approved by Curriculum Committee ensuring that students complete a major by either 1) transferring back relevant courses to Concordia or 2) completing all major courses at Concordia.

Students arriving at Concordia intending to complete their degree at partner institution, but do not do so, would be required to fulfill the entirety of Concordia's Core, two PEAK requirements, and complete a traditional Concordia major.
